Talk:Hello Ham Radio Walking Tour 2006

From Megawiki

When should we do this?

  • May 20 - Conflict, Dayton Hamvention ATV Group Meeting 3p-5p
  • May 27 - Memorial Day Weekend
  • June 3 - ATV Group Meeting 3p-5p
  • June 10 - Conflict, GMR the night (morning) before
  • June 17 - ATV Group Meeting 3p-5p
  • June 24 - Conflict, Field Day

I like May 27th, or June 3rd N9RGX 17:53, 5 May 2006 (CDT)

What about august, nothing much going on that month. may 27 is memorial day, most people travel but for those around. Recommend spliting up the routes into three small ones, have a sag maybe. Could you do one June 3 in the morning, and one in august?-kb9mma

I think you are thinking WAY too grand of a scale. It's not even 8 miles. We'll be on the radio. People may join in at any point I suppose.
August is way too hot.
SAG wagon? NO.
WOn't need SAG since most hams will have radio's on them :) Or will be near a ham with a radio. We'll be acting sort of as SAG walkers for the people without them, but most will either do part, or not need one at all. IMHO. If I end up cutting out early I plan to at least stick around the end of the route until everyone's finished just in case someone needs a pick-up. But it's not a 'push yourself hard' kind of thing like a triathlon so most people won't be driven to go farther than they can. --KC9EOW 11:40, 8 May 2006 (CDT)

Interesting, what would get people to do this? What about offering a price or contest if targeting hams community specifically.

3 pt 6 meter
1 pt 2 meter
2 pt 70 cm
3 pt 220
per callsign per band.
even do it from each location you listed..

possibly get prices donated thru VCR, NOT FOR PROFIT, and other donations for hams with most points ( teams perhaps) get to choose from a list of benefactors that. or that could be next year?

or is that too like someone we know?

I don't think we need prizes myself... maybe I'm open to the idea... the point I wanted is just to have fun and do it. Do a little Sight seeing in town, maybe show off the radios, make some contact and get exercise. I didn't really want to log a few fun contacts and have to turn in my work, I just wanted to rag chew on the radio. All that being said, if someone wanted to organize something like that, I'm not against it. Maybe even do teams in a scavanger hunt type thing, as long as it stays fun. The problem with that is, I decided my idea of fun was to operate QRP CW on 20 Meters, I'm not going to worry about the other stuff. So it really depends on what someone is going to want out of the experience, and I don't think either way of looking at it is mutually exclusive, we could even do it both ways. No comments from older hams that might want to walk 8 miles is along way, for them and even me.

that is why i suggested making 2-3 different tracks.

We have 2 routes, the one north of main st bridge and hte one south of it. I'm planning to just do the one south of it myself since my son will prolly be with me. I will be around on mobile in the car after I'm done in case anyone needs a pick-up just in case though. I'm not really iunto long walks, but it does look like fun!--KC9EOW 12:35, 8 May 2006 (CDT)

I don' see two routes I see one. just pick a date. This might be something fun to do for those NOT at dayton? jim how do you do that --tag thing?

Click on teh signature button on teh top and it puts it in auto for you. I'll show you teh 2 'sub-routes' on the map later when I see you. If you look closely, the route loosely resembles a figure-8. So the 2 circles would be the two routes.

I enjoyed this event. The weather was beautiful, the scenery was lovely and the company was grand. Thanks Alex. WB9USI 22:42, 3 June 2006 (CDT)

Is this going to be an annual event? Sorry I missed it, both Sam and the babysitter were sick :( --KC9EOW 23:03, 3 June 2006 (CDT)
