Information for net control Operators
Spirit of Racine Triathlon ARES net
Net-Preamble
This is [WI9RAC], net control for the 2008 Spirit of Racine Triathalon. A directed net is now called. All communications will be carried out at the direction of the net control. Your backup net control is [BNC callsign].
Net Purpose
Welcome to the 2008 sprit of racine triathlon ARES net, this net is a special event in Racine county.
Net control wishes to thank the lakeshore repeater association, for the use of these fine machines.
This net supports tactical, and health and welfare traffic for the event.

The Goals for the event are:
- Provide communications for health and welfare of event at critical tactical locations.
- Provide high level of progress of race, first three male and female runner numbers, and last runner.
- Report any persons needing medical attention, dropouts, or bikes in need of repair.
- Serve agencies (Law Enforcement, Coast guard, and event coordinators) as dictated by mission.
- Practice communications in a controlled planned environment.
All emergencies and no other traffic should be offered unless specifically directed to do so by the net control.
Net managers phone is 262-909-3996 for any non - radio / traffic. as a backup.

Check-Ins
I will now take check -ins for the net.
When checking into the net, please listen first to avoid doubling and then state your tactical location, followed by your callsign.
Example MED-1 KB9NPT
Should your station be called by net control, please respond with your TACTICAL CALL.
If you have traffic, call net control.
For ALL emergencies, use standard pro word BREAK followed by tactical CALL, NCS will handle your emergency.
Once checked in, please remain on frequency listening attentively, until the net control secures your station. Should you need to leave before the net has concluded, call net control with the word CHECKOUT followed by your callsign and wait until net control has secured your station.
In case of a repeater malfunction, all stations are to report to 146.460 MHz simplex.
I will now stand-by for stations with emergency, priority or time valued traffic.
Stand-by for any stations that have an immediate need to the repeater. Handle any emergencies appropriately.
Are there any stations with formal written traffic for the net? Please call [Net control].
Stand-by for any stations with formal traffic. Get the destination of the traffic when acknowledging those who checked in. If there is formal traffic listed on the net, you may want to notify the net of that traffic and find out who can pick it up. Log all the stations that check into the net. Also, break in during check-ins to give yourself a break and acknowledge those who have checked in.
I will now take general tactical check-ins for the net. Stations participating in the event please respond when net control calls your station. Please take care to avoid doubling.
You may wish to break the check-ins into sections to help keep stations from doubling. Special, BOAT, Bike, RUN.
You may use different methods, based on the situation
Net control 'IS REQUIRED to have a cross street location or hard street address for med-1. collect this information if it is not provided for each tactical location. log it on your net control sheet

Particpant Traffic
Net control will be looking for first three male / female participants and Last participant/motorcycle
Medical Protocol
Any medical conditions or needs are to be routed to MED-1 liason. This net script requires all stations checking in to provide a street address or cross street location.
If on the water nearest location to start or finish. This information is crutial for fast response of medcial personnel, as in any radio traffic we pass as accurate as possible.
If not life threatening, call med-1, and you will be advised from there.
Please note If Immediate threat to LIFE injuries call 911 immediately, such as motor vechicle accident, or someone is bleeding on the street. Then notify med-1.
Example
If Boat needs medical help station should call net control medical.
make sure you have thier location.
Net control Boat-1 NCS: Boat-1 go Ahead contact Med-1, please relay location.
Boat-1 : Med-1 meet you at the beachead by where swimmers enter, bring blankets med kit. we have exhausted swimmer. Callsign

Digital Protocol
Same as voice protocols for event: Follow RCARES_Winlink_digital_net_procedures for winlink messaging.
In addition you can send: Also retrieve weather service forcast at NCS and forward out to stations. APRS conditions can be relayed at the top of every hour. If you have any very small pictures, forward them to NCS and MC-1. ( if applicable).
APRS will be utilized on the bike course. Below are the recommended settings for event:

Weather Protocol
Announce to stations and MC-1 current weather conditions Status update hour to all stations.
- Green - Everything A-OK.
- Red - Warning, or Watch, weather event, relay details.
Race director will advise what to do.
Examples: This is Net control with a weather update... status GREEN Normal weather conditions apply.
This is net control with a weather update... status RED Weather condition: {fill in condition} advise both ham net an GMRS / Cell Phone.
Event co-ordinator will advise if we shut down race, or what to do.
Be prepared to start a severe weather net on frequency if directed.
Closing the Net
This is [your call], net control for the spirit of Racine Triathlon ARES net. I would like to thank [BNC callsign]; Backup Net Control; the Lakeshore Repeater Association, for the use of the Repeater; and all of the stations that participated in this net. Your help is greatly appreciated.
All stations are now secured at (time) local time. This is [your call] now releasing the repeater for normal use.
At the conclusion of the net, prepare a net report to be sent to the Net Manager. The information to be included in the net report consists of the following:
- Net name
- Net date
- Traffic offered/passed
- Total time of net in minutes
- Number of check-ins
