Please keep in mind / review the design and goals on RCARES 2006 Triathlon.

General comments

What went well

  • Crossbanding solution, went extremely well.

All stations using it were on HT and full copy into both repeaters. The crossbander was listening on a odd offset, uplinked into K9RI repeater on 70cm. 147.270 and K9RI repeater

  • Stations that have practiced over the last year, and attended ares meetings
  • Net controls and voice communications went very well - ka9kje
    • Back up emergency power at the command post. -wb9usi
    • Not too many allowed in command post - wb9usi
    • APRS very important to law enforcement agency on site. - wb9usi
    • ham radio information distributed. - wb9usi
    • Ham computer is installed in command post just needs more software --KB9MMA 21:30, 9 August 2006 (CDT)
    • Need more APRS - KC9EOW
  • What needs improvement
    • Meet beginning before event, for quick brief. - Ka9kje
    • Install ARES computer in command post - wb9usi
    • Install printer for hard copies for served agencies. - wb9usi
    • Fly weather balloon(s) to bring passersby to ham radio information. - wb9usi
    • Food coordinator do something with food like last year, delivered not like this year - n9rgx

Specific Phase comments

Boat

  • What went well
    • Hams were extra set of hands on boat, so that they can do other duties. - N9RGX
    • Cross bander link worked perfect - N9RGX


  • What needs improvement
    • Event coordinator should be able to give people times and headcount at end of each phase- n9rgx
    • Coast guard had technical difficulties.- n9rgx
    • Put hams on more boats, sheriff was asked who they needed... - N9RGX

Bike

  • What went well
    • Well organized.
    • APRS The units that worked were great.
    • Most of the stations had good signals. Pre-emphasis on antennas certainly did help.



  • What needs improvement
    • Map from event sponsor not detailed enough to find stations- KA9kje
    • shirts should be delivered before the event so the volunteers can wear them during the event. - kc9eow
    • A volunteer position should be created so someone could volunteer for just that part of the event. (this goes for the run also)- wb9usi
    • Maybe a box with the shirt and other goodies could be put together to be dropped off at the sites. A committee could look into what to put in it. Somewhat on the order of the infamous GMR container but to our specs.- wb9usi
    • The box could be used for other ARES events.Clip boards, digital flares, etc.- wb9usi
    • APRS units perfected - wb9usi
    • a couple of the stations did not have good signals.- wb9usi
