On June 9-10, 2006 runners, their families and friends, spectators and many others will gather again in Madison, WI for the 2nd annual running of the Great Midwest Relay (GMR). The GMR is one of the longest distance races of its kind in the Midwest. The race will include about 1,000 runners, eight counties and two states. Amateur radio operators are needed in Racine county to assist with this event. There are 4 (four) Transfer Areas (TA) to cover. Each station should be assigned at least three operators to work out well. The more operators assigned at each station allows us to shorten the assignment durations.
This is an ARES activity. Assisting in these service activities helps train operators. The Emergency operations center in Lake County, Illinois will also be activated for this event.
Please add your name to the list if you would like to participate.

Van Transfer Areas
At the Van Transfer Areas (VTA) in Wisconsin, the digital station operator sends out a message when the first three and last runner leaves their area. There will be a spreadsheet provided (by the race officials before the race) every hour with the times that runners leave the area. The spreadsheet is about 100 entries long. All the digital operators need to fill in a time for each team and send the document to the NCS stations and the digital coordinator.
Jim Darrow, KB9MMC will be assigning VTA locations throughout the state prior to the race. Each operator is asked when on location to send him a message prior to the race.

You must now enter this TA From the west off of Hwy 32. I have attached the TA to TA Directions with the change noted in red. This entire road is undergoing some major overhaul so even coming in from the east side is gravel and one lane. I re-routed you back on the course so you would be close to your runner.
