Practice net:
The purpose of this net is for the handling of traffic, announcements and other forms of training.
Activation net
The purpose of this net is for support of [disaster and/or agency]. This net is designed to co-ordinate logistics during an activation and handle any traffic the stated situation dictates. ARES stations monitoring are encouraged to check in with availiblity, resources at thier disposal. (Include a small description of type of traffic expected, usually EC or net manager will advise you.)
Examples:
WB9USI HF, winlink availible until 8 PM.
N9TRI VHF, winlink and portable kit.
Severe weather spotter activation net
The purpose of this net is for the forwarding of severe weather observations to the National Weather Service based on the following two divisions:
Severe Conditions and Pro-Words
To be reported immediately using voice channels (in order of importance)
1. Tornado (Waterspout if event is known to be on a body of water)
2. Funnel Cloud
3. Rotating Wall Cloud - confirm that it is rotating
4. Severe Damage - tree branches greater than 3” dia. snapped, trees uprooted
5. Severe Winds - 58MPH OR HIGHER
6. Severe Hail - 1 INCH OR GREATER
7. Severe Flooding
Non-Severe Conditions and Pro-Words
These are be reported via digital modes (eSpotter, e-mail to the Office Webmaster or WinLink/RMS) unless directed otherwise (in order of importance
8. Minor Hail - ¾ INCH TO 7/8 INCH (in numeric values only)
9. Minor Damage -
10. Minor Flooding - non-life-threatening / non-damaging water over curb
11. Visibility - less than half mile
12. Rainfall - measured exceeding the rate of 1/4" per 15 minutes measured over at least 15 minutes
13. Minor Winds - 40 mph to 57 mph
The recommended format of reporting is the NWS_TLCS_Reporting_Format for the above criterion.
All emergencies and no other traffic should be offered unless specifically directed to do so by the net control.
Amber Alert net
The purpose of this net is for the forwarding of observations to law enforcement agencies. All participating stations are asked to observe and report, and not to intervene. You should consider the suspect as a danger to yourself and others. The only action you should take is to observe and report.
This information would include:
- Descriptions
- license numbers
- location
- And other facts that will be important to identifying and apprehending the suspect.
