Kit building

From Megawiki

Building your own radio is a time honored Amateur Radio tradition. You can build inexpensive kits, especially for use on HF frequencies, but there are also kits available for the VHF and UHF bands. There are many inexpensive radio kits are available. Below is a sampling of available Amateur Radio kits.

Transceivers

Elecraft K2
The Elecraft K2 is a full-featured HF transceiver. Two VFOs with multiple memories, split TX/RX operation, RIT/XIT, full break-in CW, memory keyer, narrow IF crystal filtering, excellent RX dynamic range and IF derived AGC are standard on the K2 with many other options available.

OHR 500 5 Band CW Transceiver Kit
The Oak Hills Research OHR500 is a five band CW transceiver that covers 150 KHz of the 80, 40, 30, 20 and 15M bands.

NW Series Monoband CW Transceiver
The NW Series CW Transceivers are state-of-the-art monoband QRP transceiver designed to bring Fun, Skill and Pride back into Ham Radio.

Ten-Tec TKIT 1300 series
Enjoy the world of QRP CW operation with one of our single band transceiver kits. Easy to build and simple to operate. Each unit covers a 50 kHz segment determined by you at the time of construction.

MFJ QRP-Cub
MFJ QRP-Cub Transceivers use Surface mount Technology to achieve big performance in a pocket-sized package. The kit version has all SMT parts mounted and soldered. You just insert and solder the through-hole parts such as the connectors, inductors and trimmer caps/pots. In just a few hours, you'll be working the world with QRP fun!

The PSK-series Transceivers
The rig is crystal-controlled and was designed to work with the popular DigiPan software. Output power is 3-4W PEP. The crystal control provides excellent stability and its simplicity keeps the cost low. Performance characteristics for all PSK-series versions are similar.

Transmitters

Vectronics 2 Meter FM Transmitter
Transmit voice, data, and more with this powerful 5-Watt 2 Meter transmitter! The versatile VEC-1202 2 Meter Transmitter Kit accepts microphone input, AFSK data (up to 1200 baud) and FSK data (up to 9600 baud). With both reactance and direct FM modulators on board, you jumper-select the best one for your particular application.

Ramsey QRP Series
These nifty little CW transmitters are practical and economical take-along rigs for trips, camping, teaching or just amazing yourself with just what a watt will do!

Receivers

Ramsey FR Series
In just one evening of building fun you can be snooping around the band monitoring the local repeater, checking-out new bands, or even eavesdropping in on the local police and businesses. There are no short cuts taken in the design of these units-sensitivity is equal to full size monitor receivers or scanners.

Rainbow Communications Receiver
This receiver is a dual conversion (10.7MHz tuned IF) with 2uV sensitivity and band width of 5KHz. It has 400mw of audio output. The only adjustments are easily tuned using one of these items - TV, cable converter, frequency counter, or a service monitor. The kit is varactor tuned with volume and squelch controls. All of the parts are included for each frequency. You choose what frequency to build. Power requirements a 9 volt battery or 7.5 to 15vDC

CK2 Crystal Radio Receiver
Your basic crystal radio.

Ramsey HR Series
The receiver counterpart to the Ramsey QRP Series Transmitters.

RF Direction Finding

Ramsey Doppler Direction Finder Kit
Get in on the fun of radio direction finding (RDF) with this super kit ! The latest in affordable Doppler direction finding equipment available in a complete kit form ..this one even includes the receiving antenna assembly! A must for the fox hunter.

Electronic Rainbow Searcher
A direction finder antenna that connects to any UHF/VHF Ham Radio or Scanner. Great for fox hunting, finding hidden transmitters that are raising havoc with your repeater ... Look out FOX! This VERTICAL DI-POLE antenna connects to your radio through the antenna jack. Tune your radio to the frequency of the transmitter you are trying to locate (from 140 MHz to 500 MHz)

Ramsey Foxhound
The Foxhound uses a pair of telescopic whip antennas which are manually turned (by you!) until the sensitive meter indicates the lowest reading. This direction finder uses the latest technology for trouble-free, solid operation. The antennas are alternately switched on and off using PIN diodes. The outputs are then passed thru a high-Q audio filter and synchronously detected for phase shift. A pair of LEDs tell you in which direction you should rotate the antennas- to the right or left.

Antenna Tuners / Transmatch

Emtech ZM-2 Antenna Tuning Unit
The ZM-2 is a state of the art Antenna Tuning Unit. It is not just another standard tuner circuit repackaged. The ZM-2 has no inductance switching to mess with, just two variable capacitors to tune. And most times that is 1 to 1 SWR where other tuners only get close. The ZM-2 will tune all bands from 80 to 10 meters. Maximum Power is 15 Watts.

Transverters & Downconverters

DCNV-440 ATV Downconverter
The DCNV-440 ATV downconverter will enable reception of ATV signals in the 70 cm. 420-450 MHz amateur band, using an ordinary TV set or monitor tuned to VHF CH 3 or CH4.

Terminal Node Controllers

TNC-X
TNC-X is a new Terminal Node Controller (kit) design based on the Chepponis/Karn KISS protocol. On board socket for a USB module which provides the TNC with a USB port. The TNC can be powered from the USB port of the computer; no other power supply is needed.
