As of this morning short term recovery operations were in effect. Ham radio operations were not needed.

Introduction and Background

Red Cross requested ARES activation for the storm damage from Tornado in Kenosha County.

Eighteen ham radio operators were deployed.

Two Red Cross Shelters were opened and each was manned by a ham radio operator.

One Base was set up in Union Grove and four ham radio operators were deployed to Red Cross Damage Assessment vehicles from that location. Hams also provided communications from that site.

Net Control was conducted from the ham station at the American Red Cross building 4521 Taylor Avenue. - Racine.

Communication was coordinated between Milwaukee, Waukesha and Racine Red Cross facilities via Ham Radio

A Ham radio operator was operating from the Kenosha County EOC. All stations were secured at 11:20 PM.

The new ARES communication trailer was activated and taken to the Racine Red Cross site. Equipment from the trailer was used.

Racine/Kenosha counties emergency activation with red cross as of a result of tornado and severe thunderstorms in the immediate area.

Description of Event / Drill / Exercise

Event was established to provide communications resources for the red cross shelters and disaster on an as needed basis.

A total of two shelters, one base of operations, two red cross facilities, and Four Mobiles resources were requested by red cross. ALL positions were filled and additional resources put on standby for the following day.

6:10 PM N9EAL contacted EC for activation of Racine County ARES for support at red cross shelter.
net control established
Repeater issue noted and begin repair work, choose to remain on freq.
6:30 PM N9EAL contacted Dave for base of operations in union grove for disaster
6:55 PM KA9OIL assigned to Base of operations.
7:05 PM request from red cross for 3-4 radio operators
7:06 net control request went out 4 ham stations responded.
7:10 Net Control put out technical requirements for operators /verified equipment and began assigning resources, with EC.
7:14 Shelter #1 central high school setup
7:30 Shelter #2 Ruther H.S. Setup Comms assigned to Shelters about 3 min later.
7:45Initial comm teams for damage assessment start arriving.
8:00 Comms at shelter#1 arrive
8:30 Remaining com teams arrive

10:10 Milwaukee red cross comms shut down.
10:28 Shelter #2 comms shut down kuf
10:35 Dammage assessment base of operations secured.
11:10 Pm Shelter #1 comms shut down
